Frequently Asked Questions About Real Life Stories
Everything you want to know about how Real Life Stories works — from how we source genuine experiences to our editorial process and privacy.
About the Stories
Is this site real — are the stories genuine?
Yes. Every story published on Real Life Stories comes from a real person's genuine experience. We do not publish fiction. Our editorial team reads each submission carefully and works with contributors to ensure the account is honest and accurately told.
Names, locations, and identifying details may be changed at a contributor's request to protect their privacy — but the events themselves are always real. Browse our story collection to see for yourself.
How do you collect real life stories?
Stories reach us through partnerships with community organisations, direct outreach, and contributors who feel moved to share their experiences after reading others on the site.
How do you decide which stories to publish?
We look for stories that are honest, specific, and carry some emotional truth that readers will recognise in their own lives. We are not looking for extraordinary events — often the most resonant stories are about ordinary moments that quietly shifted something. Explore stories in relationships to see what we mean.
We do not publish content that could endanger contributors, that makes unverifiable claims about living individuals, or that promotes harm of any kind.
Are stories edited after submission?
Yes. Our editors work collaboratively with contributors to shape each story for clarity, flow, and emotional impact. No factual changes are made without the contributor's approval. Contributors review the edited version before publication.
Privacy & Safety
What personal data do you collect?
We collect only what is necessary to operate the site — standard server logs and any information you voluntarily provide when reaching out to us.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use tracking advertising. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I have my story removed after publication?
Yes. If you contributed a story and wish to have it removed or significantly altered, email us at [email protected] with your request. We will process removal requests within 30 days. We may retain an anonymised version for archival purposes unless you request complete deletion.
